Check Out The Original Memorial Day Footage

On Memorial Day in 1996 a group of people witnessed an upright creature run across an open area on the side of a hill through very rugged terrain. Fortunately one of them had a video camera on hand and recorded the entire event, which became known as the Memorial Day Footage. Over the years it has become a piece of bigfoot history.

    2. If it was a hoax, which I don't believe it is, has anyone benefited from it? The video is now 19 years old, how come no one has come forward claiming to be the one in the monkey suit? Watch the "Bigfoot: Legend Meets Science" DVD when the former track star slips and falls while trying to duplicate the run.

    4. No suit. Just someone running.

    5. I believe if Owen Pate (who is now deceased) was still alive and offered a large sum of money, he would readily reveal it was a hoax. After all - when he call the investigator Larry Lund the first thing he wanted to know was if it could be aired on television and how much money they would be paid. They were indeed compensated but the producer Doug Haijcek offered they would have given it without compensation although we have only his word on that. Let it be noted that as the producer of "Bigfoot - Legend Meets Science" it would serve Haijcek's self interest in saying so. Of course Haijcek who produced the special would show anything that would bolster the case for Bigfoot's existence. In truth Derek Prior easily outran the subject in the film at almost double the speed. Of course it was reported in the special that the supposed Bigfoot in the film was running at a speed far beyond human capabilities. We seen and heard what the producer Haijcek wanted us to learn and that wasn't necessarily the truth.

  3. This video has been a hoax from day 1. The only thing that gave it authenticity was the BFRO, who put it on their opening page for a number of years. Why is it a blatant hoax? Because the video is normally shown WITHOUT THE AUDIO. If you listened to the version with the audio, the voice of a known hoaxer is heard, AND they are talking about all of the money they are going to make with this video AND they name the hoaxster in the suit.

Furthermore, the hoaxster ran slower than a comparison x-country college runner, and the hoaxster was so exhausted at the end that he jacked the fake head up on top of his head so that he could get more air, while he was still out in the open.

THIS VIDEO IS A COMPLETE HOAX. THE BFRO WAS PRESENT DURING THE DOCUMENTATION INCLUDING RICK KNOLL, AND EVERY SINGLE ONE PRESENT KNEW THAT IT WAS A HOAX.

The hoaxsters then took their video to Larry Lund for him to authenticate it. Larry Lund refused to authenticate it since he watched the video that had the audio still attached.

"the hoaxster was so exhausted at the end that he jacked the fake head up on top of his head so that he could get more air, while he was still out in the open."

If that's so, it would have made sense to cut the video before that event occurs, and avoid all of the scrutiny which the figure suddenly growing "taller" has engendered. If this were a hoax, they would have cut the video before the gasping "hoaxter" "lifted the head" so he could breathe.

The final right arm swing, in stabilized best version, reveals what looks like a fringe of orangutan-like forearm hair swinging.

    4. In late 2004, the BFRO started running the MDV on the opening page and represented it as an authentic Bigfoot video. They kept it there for years. Go back and dig through their old postings, if you can.

    5. The BFRO members only privately admitted it was a hoax. I spoke with some Mr. Brown in 2005 over the phone, and he admitted that it was a hoax then. The Bigfootencounters review of the video, is about as compelling an argument as can be made, for it being a hoax.

  7. What is needed is clear, detailed, unambiguous, sustained footage documented by someone with credentials and and an established reputation in the field such as a known wildlife photographer. The reason the known footage is not taken seriously is because of the individuals who took the films, and the doubts about authenticity that result from allegations of hoaxing. As far as the Memorial Day footage is concerned, I believe it is a hoax myself. There are many reasons to believe so.
